CFC76: Yeah baby!

Happy Friday!  I hope everybody has thoroughly enjoyed the big CAS-ual Fridays Stamps release and all the sneak peeks (click here to see if you were a winner!). It has been so awesome to be able to design for Michele using her fun, original stamp sets, and my card for this week's challenge was no exception.  Here is the challenge from the CAS-ual Fridays blog:
 CFC76: Kraft On
Use kraft on your clean and simple creation

And the sponsor for this week's challenge?  You guessed it!  It's CAS-ual Fridays Stamps!  And the store website is now up and running, so please go shop to your heart's content.  And don't forget to play along this week for a chance to win some wonderful CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, just like the ones I used on this paper yummy:

The "Yeah baby!" and "You did it!" stamps are both from the Woot Woot set, and I stamped them on a plastic die-cut piece from American Crafts (using Staz-On ink).  The bright coral/pink colored square is another plastic die-cut, and I just thought those two colors looked great together, especially with the crisp white on kraft.  The row of dots stamp is from the Big Thanks set, and I stamped it in Hero Arts Soft Pool ink, which is a near perfect match for the plastic piece.  I added a couple rhinestones to finish off the card:

I really hope you'll play along with this week's challenge.  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to do so. On a different note, a few of the Girl Fridays are retiring, so please stop by and give them some extra bloggy love this week.  Thank you so much for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections (kraft), Georgia Pacific (white); plastic die cuts: American Crafts; stamps: CAS-ual Fridays Stamps; ink: Tsukineko (black Staz-On), Hero Arts (Soft Pool); corner rounder punch: We R Memory Keepers; rhinestones: The Paper Studio

Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge - You're groovy!

Happy Monday to all!  I hope everybody had a great weekend.  I'm back today with the new Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge for this week!  YAY!!  Since it's the fourth week of the month, you know what that means:

Yep, it's a photo inspiration challenge.  And here is the very cool inspiration photo for this week:

Isn't that just the funkiest sofa ever?  It really threw me for a loop as to how to translate it into a card.  I definitely stepped outside my comfort zone to create this paper yummy:

So I'm not sure that I really channeled the sofa in my card, but I think it's pretty darn funky too.  I used the rounded rectangles stamp from the Spiffy Scooters set and stamped it multiple times to create the background.  Then I colored them all in with Copics, trying to simulate the general location of the colors in the sofa.  I created the sentiment using the Graffiti set, and finished it off with a flower from Qwick Qwips and a lil' rhinestone.  Here are some more views:

How are you inspired by this week's challenge?  I'm really excited to see how other people interpret this photo!  You can play along with the challenge here. You have until Sunday, September 2nd at 11:59 PM EST to play along.  The winner will receive a $30 credit to the Paper Smooches store!!  And don't forget the check out the rest of Team 2's wonderful creations, and give em' some love!
Thanks so much for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections (black, kraft), Copic (white); stamps: Paper Smooches; inks: Tsukineko (black), TPC Studio (red); markers: Copic; corner rounder: We R Memory Keepers; rhinestone: craft supply; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer

CFC64: Sending you sunshine

Happy Friday!  I'm here with this week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge:
CFC64: Use things you might find in the sky on your clean and simple project

And once again, our fabulous sponsor is Simon Says Stamp.

They are so generous to sponsor our challenge regularly!  The winner of this week's challenge will receive a gift certificate to spend in their store.  And speaking of this week's challenge, let's get to it!  The timing for this challenge couldn't have been more perfect.  So the theme is "On Cloud 9", but you can use anything you might find in the sky.  While I am on cloud 9 (my first publication is in print this month! YAY!), I chose to bottle up some sunshine in this paper yummy:

I know I've said it before, but the Summer Fresh collection from Simple Stories is the quintessential summer line.  It just screams summer and sunshine-y goodness.  So when I saw this coordinating stamp set from Simple Stories/Unity Stamps, I couldn't resist.  I love that the jar stamp in this set is so big - it's perfect to create a shaped card (about 5 inches tall!).  I stamped it onto white cardstock and also onto some scratch paper.  I cut out the inside of the jar from the scratch paper, and used the negative cut as a mask to stamp all the sunshine inside the jar.  Then I scored and folded the card on the left side of the jar.  I placed some temporary adhesive inside the card to keep the two layers together, then fussy-cut around the outline.  For the sentiment, I used a stamp from the Hero Arts/Studio Calico Heyday Sentiments set.  I masked off the "you are my" above the "sunshine" so that I could hand-write "sending you" instead.  Here is a close-up:

Are you on cloud nine, or could you use a jar full of sunshine?  Either way, I hope you'll play along with this week's challenge.  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to do so.  We'd love to have you!

Thanks for looking!

Paper Smooches Cardstock Contest - Wish Big

Hi again!  I'm back with my second card for the Paper Smooches Cardstock Contest.  To see my first card, click here.  The challenge is to make a project using only cardstock - no patterned paper.  I love me some patterned paper, so this was definitely a challenge for me.  But I came up with a couple of pretty cute cards, if I may say so myself :)  Here is my second paper yummy:
I used a few stamp sets to create this card, including the adorable new Alfresco set.  But instead of stamping the hamburger "as is", I decided to do a bit of masking and stamp the patty/cheese over and over again, to create a giant burger.  If you were that cute lil' ant, wouldn't you wish for a burger that size?  LOL :)

I thought it would look cute to have a toothpick sticking out of the burger, so I decided to put my sentiment flag on the toothpick.  I stamped some subtle tone-on-tone polka dots, then created a sentiment from the Alphadot set:
Since there was no patterned paper allowed, I created the "tablecloth" using the gingham stamp from the Debonair set.  I had so much fun creating this card.  The hardest part was trying to determine what color markers I should blend to create a good hamburger patty color.  I guess you just can't find a good meat-colored marker anymore.  What's the world coming to?

I used this sketch from Retro Sketches:
That long narrow strip is what actually inspired me to make a giant stacked 8-patty-8-cheese burger.  I'm also playing along here:

Paper Smooches Cardstock Contest - Let's Party!

Happy Sunday!  Today I'll be sharing a few cards with you, the first of which is for a little contest at the Paper Smooches blog.  In honor of National Scrapbooking Day yesterday, Kim issued a challenge to use only cardstock - no patterned paper - to make a project.  And of course, since it's a Paper Smooches contest, she wants to see Paper Smooches stamps.  As if I need an excuse to use them, I made a couple of cards for this contest.  Here is my first paper yummy (I'll post the second in a separate post):

I used strips of cardstock to create my own diagonal striped paper, then stamped the hexagons from the Geo-Graphic set on the right side of the card.  I stamped it again on white cardstock and paper-pieced the hexagons.  Some hexagons I adhered flat, others I popped up on dimensional adhesive, and on 2 random hexagons, I cut out the colored cardstock with a craft knife to show the white card base underneath.  So I have 3 different "heights" of white hexagons:

In the two "negative cut" hexagons, I stamped two little stars from the Metropolis set in inks that match the cardstock color of that row.  The sentiment is from Word Salad, the exclamation point is from Alphadot, and the bigger star (stamped with Versamark ink) is from Smarty Pants.  I finished off the card with machine stitching around the edges and baker's twine through one of the negative cuts:

This card was a lot of fun to make, and definitely challenged me to think a little outside the box. I even *chose* to do diagonal lines outside the constraints of a sketch.  YAY!
Thanks for looking!
