CFC89 - Three little birds

Hello, and happy Friday!  Today I'm here with a super fun challenge from CAS-ual Fridays!
CFC89: Love Song
Create a clean and simple project inspired by a song

This week's challenge is sponsored by CAS-ual Fridays Stamps!  The winner will receive a store credit to spend here!
For this challenge, I had so many songs that I wanted to translate into a card, but just didn't have the right stamp or a great idea for the card itself.  Then I saw it, just sitting there on my crafting table.  The perfect stamp for this paper yummy:
The three little birds made me think of the Bob Marley song, and I thought the sentiment "don't worry about a thing" would make a perfect card for someone needing some encouragement.  I stamped the three little birds and colored them in with Copic markers.  I stamped the sentiment using alphabet stamps by Hero Arts, then masked the birdies and stamped the Zig Zag background, also by Hero Arts.  I added a strip of patterned paper by My Mind's Eye to finish off the card.  Here's a close-up of the three little birds:
How will you be inspired by this challenge?  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to show us!  Play along here.  Thanks so much for looking!

Supplies: card stock, markers: Copic; stamps: Hampton Art (birds), Hero Arts (Zig Zag, alphabets); inks: Tsukineko; patterned paper: My Mind's Eye; corner rounder: We R Memory Keepers

CFC87 - Sunshine, peace & hope

Happy Friday!  I hope your week was wonderful! I'm here today with a card that I'm just giddy over, and it's my card for this week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge:
CFC87: Make your mark
Use markers on your clean and simple project

And this week's sponsor is Crafter's Companion, who is offering up an awesome Spectrum Noir markers prize package!

So for this challenge, I wanted to use one of the cutest stamps (in my opinion) that Paper Smooches makes.  I'd never used this particular stamp, but I think it's absolutely PERFECT for a spring time card, and also to send well wishes to a friend who's been going through a rough patch.  And now for the paper yummies:

I stamped the adorable lion and lamb stamp from the Eco-Friendly stamp set on white cardstock, colored it in with Copic markers, and fussy-cut it out.  I thought the lion looked so contented, as if the sun was shining down on him and his little lamb buddy.  So, on the white cardstock panel, I embossed a square Nestabilities die to create a frame.  I masked off the area outside the square, and stamped the sunshine in the upper left corner of the square.  With my Copics, I colored in the sunshine, then colored in the rest of the square to create a "sky".  I used a stamp from the Needle Little Love set to create the stitching around the edges of the frame.  The "wishing you sunshine" sentiment is from Eco-Friendly, and I added the "peace" and "hope" from the Joyful Greetings set. The big ampersand is from the We Connect set, and I stamped it in a shade of ink just slightly darker than the sky background.  Here's a close-up:
I hope you'll make your mark on this week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge!  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to play along!  Thanks so much for looking!

I'm also playing along with the inaugural Muse Card Club challenge.  My card was inspired by Amy Kolling's beautiful card at the Muse blog this week.  I loved her layout (I just reversed it on my card), the embossed square, and the fresh spring feel.

Supplies: cardstock: Copic X-Press Blending Cardstock; patterned paper: Echo Park; stamps: Paper Smooches (Eco-Friendly, Needle Little Love, Joyful Greetings, We Connect); inks: Tsukineko (Memento Tuxedo Black, Tangelo), Hero Arts (Soft Pool); markers: Copic; square die: Nestabilities by Spellbinders; die-cutting/embossing machine: Cuttlebug by Provocraft

CAS-ual Fridays Sneak Peek Week - Day 4

Happy Wednesday to everybody!  It's sneak peek week at the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps blog, where you can see a preview of the November stamp release!

Today is the fourth and final sneak peek, but you can leave comments on any of the days for a chance to win that day's stamp set.  The Girl Fridays have been killing these new releases, and our wonderful guest designer has showcased them all beautifully!  Today, I'm here to show off the new Countdown set.  This is the coolest New Year's Eve stamp set EVER!  And now for the paper yummies:

See, the reason I think this is the coolest New Year's Eve set EVER is because, not only did Michele create fun and unique sentiments, but also some super cool, buildable geometric designs like the one I used here.  I repeated the stamp over and over to create a pattern on my white cardstock.  See how some of the ovals have blue stripes going across them?  That's a separate stamp Michele included in the set, and it fits exactly inside the ovals!  LOVE THAT!  I stamped two separate sentiments together on the orange patterned paper, and used a matching orange Copic marker to color in some of the little circles from the geometric stamp.  I love the funky cool look it has!

Thanks for joining us for sneak peek week, and don't forget to comment at the new stamp blog for your chance to win!  Winners from each day will be announced on Thursday.

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Georgia Pacific; patterned papers: Lily Bee Design; stamps: CAS-ual Fridays Stamps; inks: Tsukineko (Memento Tuxedo Black), Hero Arts (Soft Pool); markers: Copic

CFC76: Yeah baby!

Happy Friday!  I hope everybody has thoroughly enjoyed the big CAS-ual Fridays Stamps release and all the sneak peeks (click here to see if you were a winner!). It has been so awesome to be able to design for Michele using her fun, original stamp sets, and my card for this week's challenge was no exception.  Here is the challenge from the CAS-ual Fridays blog:
 CFC76: Kraft On
Use kraft on your clean and simple creation

And the sponsor for this week's challenge?  You guessed it!  It's CAS-ual Fridays Stamps!  And the store website is now up and running, so please go shop to your heart's content.  And don't forget to play along this week for a chance to win some wonderful CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, just like the ones I used on this paper yummy:

The "Yeah baby!" and "You did it!" stamps are both from the Woot Woot set, and I stamped them on a plastic die-cut piece from American Crafts (using Staz-On ink).  The bright coral/pink colored square is another plastic die-cut, and I just thought those two colors looked great together, especially with the crisp white on kraft.  The row of dots stamp is from the Big Thanks set, and I stamped it in Hero Arts Soft Pool ink, which is a near perfect match for the plastic piece.  I added a couple rhinestones to finish off the card:

I really hope you'll play along with this week's challenge.  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to do so. On a different note, a few of the Girl Fridays are retiring, so please stop by and give them some extra bloggy love this week.  Thank you so much for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Recollections (kraft), Georgia Pacific (white); plastic die cuts: American Crafts; stamps: CAS-ual Fridays Stamps; ink: Tsukineko (black Staz-On), Hero Arts (Soft Pool); corner rounder punch: We R Memory Keepers; rhinestones: The Paper Studio

CFC72 - miss you

Happy Friday!  I hope everybody has had a wonderful week!  I'm back with the CAS-ual Fridays challenge for this week, and it's a fun one:
CFC72: Create a clean and simple project inspired by your own blog banner

This week's challenge is sponsored by A Muse Studio.  They have some seriously cute stuff, and the winner of this challenge will win a prize valued at over $35!  How awesome is that?!?

So you can see my blog banner above, and when I chose it, it was because I was drawn to the color combination.  I used the same inspiration to create this paper yummy:

I stamped the Hero Arts Graph Background in gray ink, then cut a frame from blue patterned paper using a Nestabilities die.  The yellow circles are from the Paper Smooches Potpourri set, and the sentiment flag is a stamp by Pebbles Inc.  I added some yellow baker's twine to a cute little blue button, and adhered it onto the sentiment flag.  Here's a close-up:

So will you toot your own horn?  I can't wait to see the entries this week!  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to play along.  We'd love to have you!

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Georgia Pacific; patterned paper: Making Memories; stamps: Hero Arts (graph), Paper Smooches (rings), Pebbles Inc. Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge - Thanks

Hello, and happy Monday!  I hope everybody had a great weekend.  Starting tomorrow, I have another six days off work, so yay for that!  But first, I'm bringing you the new Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge for this week!  Yippee!!  Since it's the fourth week of the month, you know what that means:

Yep, it's a photo inspiration challenge.  And here is the lovely inspiration photo for this week:

I just love the soothing feel of this room, from the pale robin's egg blue walls to the crisp white trims, then that POP of green apples and those yummy apothecary jars.  Swoon!  Those are the elements I was inspired by to create this paper yummy:

First I used a stamp from the Potpourri set to create the background.  I stamped it repeatedly onto a diagonal striped patterned paper by My Mind's Eye.  Then I traced and cut an oval from white cardstock to mimic the white oval mirror in the photo.  I used the straight line stamp from Hullaballoo to create the "shelf", then used the test tubes/beakers from the Great Chemistry set for the "vases":

I used a tiny heart and a flower from Hubby and Wifey on the middle vase, then finished with more flowers, leaves, and the sentiment from the Daisies & Paisleys set.  I colored in the images with Copic and Prismacolor markers.  I added a cute green gingham ribbon, and voila:

How are you inspired by this week's challenge?  I'm really excited to see how other people interpret this photo!  You can play along with the challenge here. You have until Sunday, September 30th at 11:59 PM EST to play along.  The winner will receive a $30 credit to the Paper Smooches store!!  And don't forget the check out the rest of Team 2's wonderful creations, and give em' some love!
Thanks so much for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Georgia Pacific; patterned paper: My Mind's Eye; stamps: Paper Smooches (Potpourri, Great Chemistry, Hubby and Wifey, Hullaballoo, Daisies & Paisleys); inks: Hero Arts (blue), Tsukineko (black); markers: Copic, Prismacolor; ribbon: American Crafts

CFC67: Nuts about you

Happy Friday, peeps!  Today I'm back with this week's CAS-ual Fridays Challenge (insert cheers here!):
CFC67: Use banners or flags on your clean and simple project

Yep, this week we're playing with trendy banners and flags.  I love them, and it's a good thing - you can hardly look through a new paper collection and not find banners on patterned papers, stamps, or pre-made embellishments.  So I was glad to have a "reason" to use them on this paper yummy:
I apologize for this picture, but I just could not get a good picture of this card standing up.  I don't know what it was...  Anyway, this card came together super quick, and I think it's so cute!  The Double Ended Banner Die and the Acorn Die and sentiment are from Lil' Inkers Designs.  The wood grain is Hero Arts Designer Woodgrain.  The patterned papers are from the yummy Pink Paislee Prairie Hill 6x6 pad, which is full of wonderful colors and patterns.  I popped up the top of the acorn with some dimensional adhesive, and finished off the card with a button tied with twine knots and frayed.  Here's a close-up:
Are you as crazy about flags and banners as we are at CAS-ual Fridays?  We'd love it if you joined in on this week's challenge!  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to do so.  Click here to see the rest of the design team's banneriffic creations.  Thanks for looking!

CFC64: Sending you sunshine

Happy Friday!  I'm here with this week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge:
CFC64: Use things you might find in the sky on your clean and simple project

And once again, our fabulous sponsor is Simon Says Stamp.

They are so generous to sponsor our challenge regularly!  The winner of this week's challenge will receive a gift certificate to spend in their store.  And speaking of this week's challenge, let's get to it!  The timing for this challenge couldn't have been more perfect.  So the theme is "On Cloud 9", but you can use anything you might find in the sky.  While I am on cloud 9 (my first publication is in print this month! YAY!), I chose to bottle up some sunshine in this paper yummy:

I know I've said it before, but the Summer Fresh collection from Simple Stories is the quintessential summer line.  It just screams summer and sunshine-y goodness.  So when I saw this coordinating stamp set from Simple Stories/Unity Stamps, I couldn't resist.  I love that the jar stamp in this set is so big - it's perfect to create a shaped card (about 5 inches tall!).  I stamped it onto white cardstock and also onto some scratch paper.  I cut out the inside of the jar from the scratch paper, and used the negative cut as a mask to stamp all the sunshine inside the jar.  Then I scored and folded the card on the left side of the jar.  I placed some temporary adhesive inside the card to keep the two layers together, then fussy-cut around the outline.  For the sentiment, I used a stamp from the Hero Arts/Studio Calico Heyday Sentiments set.  I masked off the "you are my" above the "sunshine" so that I could hand-write "sending you" instead.  Here is a close-up:

Are you on cloud nine, or could you use a jar full of sunshine?  Either way, I hope you'll play along with this week's challenge.  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to do so.  We'd love to have you!

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Stampin' Up! (Whisper White), Bazzill (red); stamps: Simple Stories/Unity Stamps (jar, sunshine); Hero Arts/Studio Calico (sentiment); inks: Tsukineko (Memento London Fog, Versamark), TPC Studio (yellow); embossing powder: American Crafts; white gel pen: Uniball Signo; baker's twine: Divine Twine

CFC60 - Thank you

Happy Friday!  Today I'm back with this week's challenge at CAS-ual Fridays:
CFC60: Text me
Use text in your clean and simple project

And this week's sponsor is the fabulous Simon Says Stamp:

Not only will the winner of this challenge receive a $25 gift certificate to spend at Simon Says Stamp, she will also win a guest designer spot at the CAS-ual Fridays blog!  For this week's challenge, I wanted to use text in a way I hadn't before.  I had a couple ideas in my head, and finally decided on this paper yummy:

I applied a white flower rub-on to a panel of black cardstock.  Then I colored over the rub-on using Prismacolor pencils.  I wanted to stamp my text onto the black panel, but really only have it show up against the rub-on.  So I used black Staz-on ink, and it still shows up, ever so slightly, against the black.  I really like the way it looks!  And I was able to position the flower just where I wanted on the stamp so that the "thank you" would show up.  Here's a close-up of the black-on-black stamping:

I finished off the card with a simple strip of ribbon, some stitching, a glittery brad, and some rounded corners.  I hope you'll play along with this week's challenge.  You have until next Thursday at noon EST to do so.  We'd love to have you!

Thanks for looking!

Supplies: cardstock: Georgia Pacific (white), Recollections (black); rub-on: American Crafts; colored pencils: Prismacolor; stamp: Hero Arts; ink: Tsukineko; ribbon: Hobby Lobby; brad: craft supply; sewing machine: Kenmore; thread: Singer; corner rounder: We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper

Simple Card Saturday - Happy Anniversary

Hello, and happy Saturday!  I hope everybody is having a great weekend so far, and trying to stay cool.  I've been slacking the past couple of weeks on my Simple Card Saturday post, so I'm getting back on track this week.  Today I have a card using this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches:
I needed to make an anniversary card, and wanted to use some old papers from the American Crafts I Do collection.  I love the colors in this collection, and think they are great for anniversaries since they're not too girly.  This sketch worked out perfectly for this paper yummy:

I just love the way these papers work together!  In fact, see that big gray flower?  It's part of one of the patterned papers from this line, and I just fussy cut around the part that I wanted.  And the solid green strip and scalloped gray strip are the back sides of some of the patterns.  LOVE that about American Crafts papers!  They always give you coordinating solids on the back.  I stamped a sentiment by Hero Arts and embossed it with charcoal powder.  I added some stitching around the edges and a pearl to the middle of the flower, which is popped up on dimensional adhesive.  Here's a close-up:

This card was super simple, and I'll definitely be using this sketch again!  Thanks so much for looking!

Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge - Sup, grill-friend?

Happy Monday to all! Today I have a card to share for the current Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge.  It's the first week of the month, so you know what that means...

Yep, it's the Trend Watch, where you create a card based on a current trend.  Even though I'm in group 2, I still created a card for today's challenge. It will be linked up to the challenge gallery rather than in the blog post itself.  The inspiration for this week's challenge is this:

I was inspired by all those different patterns mixed together.  Now, my card may take a minute to "get", but stick with me, and I think you'll get a kick out of it.  I still giggle every time I look at this paper yummy:

Get it???  HOMEGIRL GOT HERSELF A GRILL!!!  BAHAHAHA! She's his "grill-friend"!

The idea for this card was actually spawned when I was helping my friend's daughter, Emma, make a Father's Day card.  She wanted to use the little farmer from the new Green Acres stamp set, but wanted to give him yellow teeth.  We ultimately decided to keep his teeth white except for one gold tooth, which was done with a Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust pen (in Clear Star) over a light yellow marker.  Then I thought it would be funny to make another card and give him a grill.  Then my mind went to the Alfresco stamp set with the sentiment "sup grill-friend". I know Kim Hughes designs Paper Smooches sets to work well with one another, but I don't know if this is exactly what she had in mind.  LOL!

The sentiment is normally all on one line, but I masked and stamped each word individually to make it fit into my speech bubble.  The whole time I was making this card, I was remembering back to the time when my family went to Oklahoma City for my brother's wedding, and my sister wanted to go dancing at this club.  We went to the Skky Bar in Bricktown, and this guy came up and tried to dance with her, which was cool...until he smiled and had A FULL-ON GRILL!  Her reaction was so funny!  I don't think she even said anything, just pointed and laughed!  He got the point...  When I showed my sister this card, she started laughing and said "that guy!"

Ahem...back to the SPARKS challenge.  I used a total of 6 different patterned papers on this card.  I still crack up looking at it.  Here's my guy, and his grill-friend in the background:

I had so much fun making this card, even though it involved a lot of fussy-cutting.  I think these guys look so awesome paper-pieced!  I especially love her flowery overalls and gingham shirt...and of course, her grill!  (And a little side note, both the farmer and his grill-friend are the same stamp. Kim included a little "leaf" shape stamp in the set that doubles as pigtails!  Genius!)

I hope you will play along with this challenge.  For each challenge, there will be a PS PRO. This PS PRO will receive a banner for their blog and a $30 credit to the Paper Smooches store.  You have until Sunday, June 10th at 11:59 PM EST to play along.

seriously, what would i do...?

Happy Tuesday!  I hope everybody's week is off to a great start.  I have a really long week in front of me...I work 24-hour shifts, but I'm taking a class everyday from 8-5ish through Saturday.  But on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, I go into work after class and work til' the next morning...then back to class.  Fun, huh?!?  Oh, well...ya gotta do whatcha gotta do!  Anyway, I am so in love with today's card.  Unfortunately, the color challenge I used from Color Throwdown already ended, so I can't link this guy up there.  But there are still plenty of other challenges to play along with.  I used this Deconstructed Sketch:

I liked this sketch as soon as I saw it, but it took awhile of looking at it before it finally clicked.  Then it hit me...the perfect mother's day card!  Luckily, my mom doesn't look at my blog, so I feel safe posting it here even with a few days left until I give it to her.  Ok, on to the paper yummies:

This was actually the first card I made using this color challenge.  I made a second card, but posted that one first.  I know I've already said this, but I just love these colors together!  So yummy, and versatile!  I started off with these adorable birdies from the Unity Stamps "Garden Variety" set.  The momma bird is actually a separate stamp from the 3 little chicks, but I HAD to use them together.  And in order to make them all fit on my die cut shape, I had to mask and use my Stamp-a-ma-jig and stamp each one separately. Then I paper-pieced them with that cute yellow dot paper.  The "mom" is from the Paper Smooches Pretty Momma set, and the word bubble is Hero Arts.  The word bubble stamp actually faces the other direction, and I don't have the right ink to do mirrored stamping.  So, I masked the part of the bubble that comes down and the portion of the bubble where I wanted that part to come down, then filled in the gaps with a black pen.  I LOVE the way that last lil' chick looks like he's running to catch up, so I wanted him to be the one yelling "mom!":

The sentiment at the bottom of the card is also Hero Arts, from the "Thank you for being my friend" set.  I thought this particular sentiment was also perfect for a mom. And since I'm one of three kids in my family, this just worked well all the way around.  I LOVE IT!!!

Simple Card Saturday - One of a kind

Happy Saturday! For this week's Simple Card Saturday, I have a card using an adorable image from the Paper Smooches Zoo Crew set that was released this month. I love all the little animals, and they are really fun to paper piece. This week I'm playing along with the Young Crafters Unite Challenge, to use sewing or stitching:
CFC45: The Bold & The Beautiful-
create a Clean And Simple project using pastels and black

I'd been wanting to use the hippo from the Zoo Crew set, but just hadn't for whatever reason. Then when I got this cute gray-with-white-polka-dot paper, it hit me: make a polka-dot hippo that's one of a kind. And now for the paper yummies:

I stamped the Hero Arts Zig Zag background using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in crushed olive for a tone-on-tone background. I really love that background stamp! Then I paper-pieced my hippo and added the sentiment and the heart, which are from the Paper Smooches Word Salad set. I added Glossy Accents to the heart. The large scalloped punch is by EK Success. I tied some baker's twine and a button around part of the scallop, machine-stitched along the edge of the card, then popped the sentiment up on dimensional adhesive. Here's a closer view of my polka-dot hippo:

Love him! I'm playing along with these challenges:
